Country life in Hungary is a wonderful experience and, if you embrace local hospitality, life is so much richer.
BCC and GetWise love to organise and take part in local events and, when one of our local potters organised an evening party we had to go along! Our group witnessed the birth of some fantastic pieces of art using Japanese techniques brought over to Europe by British traders in the mid 19th Century. This involved spraying some pre-prepared pottery and heating them to 800C before burying them in a pile of pot ash and sawdust to cool, deprived of oxygen.
The finished results were fantastic and our host and his family were warm, friendly and helpful throughout the evening.
But, this was a party and so there was a ready supply of music, dancing, guylash soup and drink. And, for those true tourists amongst us, there was a chance to photograph and video everything, ask questions and even buy some great art at even greater prices.
